Nebulizers & Suction Units

A nebulizer machine is used for a person with asthma or another respiratory condition,  used to administer medication directly to the lungs. The nebulizer then turns liquid medicine into a fine mist, inhalation can be done with a mask or mouthpiece. This form of medicine allows for fast and direct application to the respiratory system. 

Some lung disorders that could require a nebulizer include:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Cystic Fibrosis 
• Bronchiectasis
• Asthma

A trained MedX Delivery technician will explain and instruct on how to properly use a nebulizer machine. However, here is a detailed explanation on use of a nebulizer:

1. Wash Hands 
2. Add the medicine to the medicine cup, according to prescription
3. Assemble the top piece, tubing, mask, and mouthpiece 
4. Attach the tubing to the machine
5. Turn on the nebulizer 
6. While using the nebulizer, be sure to hold the mouthpiece and medicine cup upright for proper delivery of medication
7. Take slow deep breaths, being sure to inhale all of the medication 

Cleaning and maintaining the nebulizer is crucial for successful use. Although some pieces may need to be replaced annually, here are some steps to take to maintain healthy use:

• Wash hands before use & use on clean surface 
• Fully disconnect the tube, medicine chamber, mask or mouthpiece; thoroughly wash with warm, soapy water
• Allow all pieces to full air dry on clean surface 
• Finally following manufacturing instructions on disinfecting the machine

Following instructions for cleaning and disinfection is crucial, failure to do so can lead to contamination from bacteria that can cause infection.
